Description

The objective of this module is to gain a knowledge and understanding of a retrofit project for a non domestic build, the design decisions that have been made to achieve the first EnerPHit school in the UK – St Sophia’s Primary School in Ayrshire, Galston, Scotland.

The aim of the project is to reduce energy demand and make a positive contribution to the local authorities' climate change ambitions. Therefor the decision was made to achieve the enerPHit standard rather the demolish and build new.

This module covers the how the enerPHit standard has been achieved by following the five same principles of Passivhaus, and the adaption that has been made to enhance the teaching and learning spaces;

1. Adequate ventilation strategy

2. Airtighness

3. Thermal brigde reduced design

4. Thermal insulation

5. Passive House windows
